From time to time the question is asked, "Is that really the machine I will receive? It looks just like a new one." Now I understand the questions and doubts a person may have when purchasing a typewriter over the Internet, especially with all the eBay door stops out there in typer-land these days.So my thinking is that a bit of show-and-tell is in order.First thing on the menu was to bring in a professional to show that this old banger would fly with the best of them. Now this classic beauty was not just another pretty face in the crowd with sleek lines. (the typewriter...)TEST ONE: Check out the space bar, does it move the carriage?TEST TWO: Check all the keys to see if they move freely and print well.TEST THREE: Getting ready to type name up to three times without mistakes.TEST FOUR: Small mistake - forgot to use shift key, but not the fault of the old banger.TEST FIVE: This could prove a bit harder than it looks and a bit of MrT's special type cleaner may well be in order.TEST SIX: This will bring our demonstration to a close. The bottom line is that the typist was able to write her own name, first and last, three times in less than ten minutes with very few mistakes. The conclusion is that in the right hands, one of MrT's old bangers will perform with the best of them. |
